Are there any benefits of synthetic motor oil over conventional motor oil?

If you change your oil regularly and your vehicle is designed for conventional oil, you will gain little benefit from using synthetic oil. However, if you want to extend your oil change intervals to 5000 miles or you are doing heavy plowing or towing, synthetic oil is optimal.This is because synthetic oil breaks down much slower than conventional oil and is much more tolerant of heat.
